Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 12, 2026
CatchCheck is a website that identifies fish from photos and shows estimated fishing regulations. It is operated by Bartlett Digital Ventures, LLC, a Florida limited liability company (“we”, “our”, or “CatchCheck”). This policy explains what information we handle, how we use it, and what we don’t do with it.
Information we handle
- Photos you submit. When you add a photo of a fish, it is sent to Anthropic’s AI API solely to identify the species. We do not store your photos.
- Location. The location you type in, or, if you choose “Use my location,” your device’s location (which your browser asks your permission to share). A GPS position is converted to a place name using OpenStreetMap Nominatim, and the resulting place name is used to look up local fishing regulations. We do not store or log your location.
- Technical information. To prevent abuse, our server briefly keeps your IP address in memory (for up to 24 hours) to count how many identifications a device requests. Our hosting provider, Render, may also keep standard server logs, such as IP address and request time, under its own policies.
CatchCheck has no accounts or sign-in, and we do not ask for your name or email. We do not use advertising or analytics trackers and do not set tracking cookies. Your browser may keep a small cache of the site’s own files so pages load faster; it contains no personal information.
How we use it
- Photos and locations are sent to our server, which forwards them to Anthropic’s API to produce the identification and regulation estimate, then returns the result to you. Nothing is written to disk or a database along the way.
- We do not sell, share, or rent your personal information to any third party.
- We do not use your data for advertising.
Third-party services
- Anthropic Claude API processes your photo and location to generate the result. Anthropic’s privacy policy applies to data sent to it: anthropic.com/privacy.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim converts GPS coordinates into a place name if you use “Use my location.”
- Render hosts the site.
Data retention
We do not retain your photos or location. They pass through our server in memory for the duration of a single request and are not stored afterward. The temporary request counter described above is cleared automatically.
Children’s privacy
CatchCheck is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will appear on this page with an updated effective date.
